Approximately 7.5 million people in Germany are functionally illiterate, of which 58% are native German speakers. People who are functionally illiterate have trouble managing daily tasks that require reading skills beyond a basic level. Lesen und Schreiben e.V. Berlin (LuS), an organisation based in Neukölln, give such adults a chance to learn to read, write, and perform daily tasks.
“Tomaten in der Badewanne” is a collection of 42 stories written by the participants of the writing workshop at LuS and 42 illustrations by four students of the weissensee academy of art and myself.
